Just been to court for 52 in a 30 (yes I know I'm a twat, the wife tells me several times a day)
Anywho upshot is 6 points and 450 quid, apart from feeling like an idiot I think the thing that hurts most is my unsullied licence is now gone.
I suppose if you look at it in a business like way thats not a bad return for 29 years on the road and lets not forget all the occasions I didn't get caught Chin up, move on and learn from it.
Anyone know the penalty for having no number plate? |

About £30 (may be 60 now?).
Leave a screw and a small piece of plate around it though...
Or do what us greenlaners do, add mud and forget to clean them |

Hmmm might look a bit suspect on my bike tho' one single solitary mud splat on the number plate. |

Oh well, go with the first option for the 'best wheelie ever, but didn't flip' effect.
Edit: The best bike I ever saw with the soiled plate look was a dispatch TDR250 with all that two stroke goo dripping down over the plate, the rest of the bike was as clean as new |

Here's one for you, following from Paul's post.
I had my old Savage at the train station having gone into the office. When I got back to the bike, some twat had chained his peddle bike across the front of bike, meaning i had a push pull lift execise to get the savage out. Pushing the bike back with a few choice words, I bumped the back of the bike into the pedel bike rack. Too pissed off to check I donned lid and pulled away. About 1/2 mile down the road I was pulled over by a couple of transport cops...
What the... I thought, they have no right to pull me, do they ?
At which point one of the officers hands me about 3/4 of my rear number plate, with a smile, and the words, 'you may need this, just in case those b****ds from traffic pull you over'..
Nice guys, could easily have left it alone, and I'd probably have been none the wiser until I was pulled officially..
But the nub of the story is rather than monster wheelies, you can always blame the pedal cyclists ! |

A court case, 6 points and £450. For 52 in a 30
Couldn't you have taken 3 points and a fixed penalty when stopped or when the ticket came through ? |

Not an option I'm afraid, over 50 in a 30 go directly to court do not pass go, do not collect..etc..etc you get the picture.
I could have pleaded guilty and let them try me in my absence, then I really would have been another faceless cash cow.
There are set guidelines that the revenue collectors, sorry magistrates follow and I was assured 6 points at least but a ban was also an option. |

hi all ,
first off this is not an official opinion
for speeding that sounds about right ,
most forces have pre set limits that they will deal with by fixed penalty, (and for that matter what they will let go)
it varies from force to force what the limits are, but they have them. my ex boss got done a few years ago for 40.91(or something like that) in a 30 and done(it was fpn but he got it because force limit for speeding in 30 mph zone was40.00 mph)
the rule of thumb is now discretion has been taken away from traffic(and other) police, now they are under pressure to get a "conviction" and as such will apply the law as they are told to
as for number plate from what i know is £ 30/60 fine, sorry can't say if its a points issue but knowing the powers that be, if it's not it soon will be
H
p.s. please don't quote me on any of this |

I think ya safe mate, I can't see you getting done if someone says "H" said it was so or "lomsavage" says it's right
Were you in car or on Kat Steve?
I've been done once in 28yrs & that was 6 yrs ago in the cage.... just as well if I was on bike would've been a lot worse (read faster) |

On the Kat, it was one of the first outings after the build, Sunday morning in Towcester, pulled away from the lights a bit enthusiastically and didn't notice the unmarked white Transit parked at the side of the road. I now have some lovely shots of me on the bike from behind. |

Sneaky bu**ers!
There was one at my local industrial estate a little while back that was pulled up against a traffic island with flashing yellows on the roof, it was only after passing it could the cameras be seen. |

It is not an offence to ride a bike without a number plate - you can even MOT a bike without one attached (as they use the frame number for verification purposes). Plod would not be able to prove that you had purposely ridden your bike minus it's plate, as, realistically, it could have detached itself during your journey, as the one on my Bimota did recently.
Altering the plate size or font style / size / spacing CAN be proven, so carries a penalty. |
